There has been very little in the way of serious historical literature published about the Malayan Railway system.  Here is a list of publications that have covered the subject:

The Malayan Railway – Keretapi Tanah Melayu

ublished c1973 by the Oakwood Press, this slim volume contains a potted history of the Malayan Railway, with useful tabulated information about most FMSR and KTM steam classes.  Coverage of diesel traction is limited.

Locomotive Centennial 1885 - 1985

A very good book on steam and diesel locomotives. This book has information on steam locomotives from F.M.S.R (Federated Malay States Railway) era to diesel locomotives from today's KTMB. This book doesn't have any information on newer locos like class 24,25,26 and YDM.

Sejarah Keretapi Di Malaysia(Malay)

The best book on railways in Malaysia. Has a lot of history on the earlier Malay states railway and how it was merged and became FMSR. Also has information on Sabah state railway.

With The Trains In Peninsular Malaysia

This book is basically about travelling in Malaysia by train.

The Railway Workshop
A slim book on Sentul Workshop. Has a lot of history.


On Railways, At Home And Abroad

Pat Ransome-Wallis
A chapter is dedicated to Pat’s experiences of the Malayan Railway in the late 1930s and early 1940s.

Periodicals

Keretapi (later Jajaran, then Sinaran)
A quarterly magazine published by KTM, in Malay and English.  Jajaran is a staff magazine, not on general sale.


Continental Railway Journal
This publication covers significant events on railways throughout the world, with an emphasis on steam and vintage traction, often based on eye-witness reports.

The Locomotive
A series of articles by H. M. le Fleming, ‘Malayan and FMS Railways Locomotives’, was published in The Locomotive, volumes 60-62, September 1954 – May 1956 (9 issues).
